The ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) is a multiple-choice assessment used by the United States military to evaluate an individual's aptitude for enlistment. It tests skills in various areas, including arithmetic reasoning, mathematics knowledge, word knowledge, paragraph comprehension, and mechanical comprehension. As a prerequisite for enlistment, the ASVAB helps determine eligibility and assigns job duties within the military. It is primarily administered to American high school students in grades 10 through 12, but anyone eligible for enlistment can take it. Although the military administers the test, achieving a qualifying score does not obligate test-takers to enlist. The ASVAB consists of 10 sections, with each section taking between 10 to 36 minutes, totaling approximately three hours. The test is offered in a computerized format at Military Entrance Processing Stations (MEPS) or in a written format at Military Entrance Test (MET) sites.
